Early Childhood Educators will work in partnership with the other ECE in the classroom. Shared duties and responsibilities include planning, organizing, and implementing daily routines for children five years and under, including children requiring extra support. The ECEs in the classroom are responsible to create experiences and facilitate opportunities that lead to a child’s cognitive, physical, emotion, and social growth and development. Early Childhood Educators are expected to be knowledgeable in best practices to ensure the safety and well-being of each child in their care.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
- Use a variety of teaching techniques including modelling, observing, questioning, demonstration, and reinforcing.
- Establish and carry out a daily routine that incorporates child directed activities, care routines, and transition times.
- Encourage and assist children to practice self help skills daily.
- Set and follow reasonable behavior expectations consistent with Purcell Preschool’s philosophy and policies.
- Provide positive guidelines such as redirecting, child-first language, and positive reinforcement.
- Asses the abilities, interests, and needs of children and discuss progress or concerns with parents and other staff members.
- Guide and assist children in the development of proper eating, dressing, and toilet habits.
- Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with co-workers, outside support workers, and staff of ELMDS who we share the building with.
- Plan and maintain an environment that protects the health, safety, and well being of children.
- Report all accident, injuries, or illnesses to the manager and record in the minor incident log and/or fill out an incident report for parents to sign.
- Maintain equipment and assist in cleaning and sanitizing toys, materials, and surfaces in the classroom.
- Attend staff meetings and participate in planning and organizing events.
- Have knowledge of and compliance with Community Care and Assisted Living Act Child Care Licensing Regulations.
