Key Responsibilities & Duties
Child Supervision, Safety & Well-Being
· Monitor and supervise children at all times in the classroom, outdoor play areas, washrooms, and on field trips.
· Ensure all children are accounted for and required staff-to-child ratios are met.
· Maintain the health and safety of children and staff in compliance with WorkSafeBC.
· Perform daily health assessments and inform parents of any changes in a child’s health, following established health policies.
· Ensure the safety of each child by consistently following safety protocols.
· Establish and maintain emergency procedures, including conducting regular fire and earthquake drills.
· Ensure daily and weekly checks of the outdoor play environment are completed.
· Ensure childcare staff dispense medications or perform procedures as required by a child’s physician.
Program Planning, Delivery & Quality
· Plan, organize, and deliver the day-to-day Early Learning and Child Care (ELCC) program.
· Collaborate in planning daily and weekly schedules that incorporate child-directed activities, care routines, and transition times.
· Contribute to timetables, scheduling, and staffing to ensure smooth program delivery and appropriate teacher-to-child ratios.
· Ensure childcare program philosophies, goals, objectives, and guidelines are established and implemented.
· Ensure the provision of high-quality, best-practice childcare at all times by adhering to licensing requirements.
· Ensure regular program evaluations, both formal and informal, are conducted.
· Ensure programs include experiences and play materials that promote anti-racist and non-sexist interactions and attitudes.
Child Development & Inclusive Practice
· Encourage and support children in gaining independence and practicing daily self-help skills.
· Guide children’s behaviour in ways that encourage a positive self-concept.
· Work collaboratively with the educator team to ensure each child is supported according to their developmental level and available resources.
· Interact with children in a respectful, supportive, and developmentally appropriate manner.
· Support the completion of records documenting individual children’s growth, development, and behaviours.
Family Engagement & Communication
· Participate in open houses, tours, and assessments for prospective children, families, and staff.
· Interact with parents in a supportive and respectful manner to promote mutual understanding of each child’s growth, development, strengths, and needs.
· Inform families of ELCC policies, changes, and requirements.
· Encourage parent participation in the program when possible.
· Offer support to parents navigating different developmental stages.
· Maintain effective communication with families by responding to emails, inquiries, and phone calls in a timely manner.
Team Collaboration & Centre Operations
· Function as a collaborative member of the Mountain Child Early
Learning & Care Centre team
· Cooperate with all Mountain Child team members and maintain positive working relationships.
· Communicate regularly with the ELCC Team Lead and Director.
· Delegate responsibilities and duties as appropriate.
· Assist with daily cleaning, organizing, and sanitizing duties.
· Contribute content for the monthly newsletter.
Administration, Documentation & Confidentiality
· Perform administrative duties in a timely manner, including scheduling, reporting, newsletters, and maintaining care plans and records.
· Ensure accurate record-keeping systems are maintained, including children’s records and attendance sheets.
· Maintain confidentiality regarding all individuals involved with the Centre, including children, families, and staff.
· Keep reporting and paperwork organized and up to date.
Professionalism & Ongoing Development
· Maintain good attendance and punctuality.
· Adhere to the philosophy, policies, and procedures of ELCC.
· Promote and support the organization’s strategic plan, mission, vision, philosophy, and code of ethics.
· Engage in ongoing staff development to enhance personal and professional skills.
· Support the professional growth of colleagues by sharing materials and information and offering feedback and encouragement.
· Participate in team meetings, professional development sessions, workshops, and in-service training.
· Work collaboratively with coordinators and professionals to ensure best practices are followed in meeting children’s early learning needs.
· Maintain required certifications in good standing.
· Represent Golden Community Resources Society positively and professionally to the public.
· Maintain cooperation and communication with other agencies.
· Be familiar with all childcare centre and GCRS policies and procedures and ensure they are adhered to while in the centre.
Qualifications
Licensing, Certification & Eligibility
· Current Early Childhood Educator License to Practice
· Current Emergency Child Care First Aid certificate or equivalent
· Criminal record check clearance
· Proof of required vaccinations
· Minimum 19 years of age
